TIER III SCIENCE OF READING BASED INDIVIDUALIZED INTERVENTION PROGRAM

EdVantage is proud to introduce a Tier III Orton-Gillingham-based Individualized Intervention program based on research in the Science of Reading.   This program is laptop based and allows the teacher to provide individualized intervention for up to 4 children of varying abilities simultaneously.  Each child receives intervention at their individual level.  Intervention data results from a comprehensive assessment; therefore, no child receives intervention on a skill they have already mastered.  This program is designed to fill gaps in a child’s knowledge to rapidly increase their reading and spelling skills.   Children are not ability grouped, where the group all receives the same instruction and are all on the same level.  This program is unique in that it is truly individualized, but can be easily and seamlessly delivered to up to 4 children at varying ages, levels, and abilities.

The program is designed to promote mastery of specific skills.  The child correctly answering a question three sessions in a row moves the item to review.  Correct answers in review three weeks in a row demonstrate mastery and that question is removed from the rotation.  This repetition of an item until mastery is based on the science of how a child learns to read in the sequence of skill acquisition.  Repeated items/word types representing the same skill require the child to generalize that skill to different words, thereby solidifying that skill.

The sections of the program include:

●     Phonological Awareness

●     Word Attack - reading words at the child’s current level

●     Oral Drill - the specific rules for the English language

●     Spelling

●     Copy/Dictation

Written Expression can be added as a separate paper and pencil component.
